Ten Subjects, Seen Through Eight Visual Languages

The Eight Series by Modern Condition Art

An open spread of the book: eight faces from the Origin series, two by two on each page, edge to edge on black.

The Modern Condition takes 340 works from a collection of 800 and looks at what they are made of: their numbers, their colours, their grids, and their letters. Works are cut into strips, joined at the axis, stacked into new bodies, framed in lancet windows, and set edge to edge. A list of plates names every work and how it is shown.

Eight vertical bands, one from each series: a stone figure before a red sun, a glass stag, an excavated statue, a face split down the middle, a neon cat, a runner drawn in measured lines, a black iris, and a mechanical stag.

Eight Series, One Set of Subjects

Origin, Futura, Eletro, Duality, Neom, Vectra, Gotic, and Verso. Each series takes the same ten subjects and sees them in its own visual language.

Cut, Stacked, and Counted
